International Alliance: Canada
Members of the Université de Lyon have established a number of partnerships in Canada, one of the strategic locations of the International Alliance.
The Université de Lyon has signed bilateral cooperation agreements with three Canadian partners: the University of Ottawa, the Université de Sherbrooke and the Université de Montréal. These cooperative projects cover all areas of knowledge and education, with an emphasis on multidisciplinary studies and technological innovation.
Training programs
STARMAC (Master’s research internship program in Canada)
An outgoing mobility program for Master’s students to do research internships in laboratories at the University of Ottawa and the Université de Sherbrooke. From 2019 to 2021, 23 students received mobility support for internships lasting from three to six months.
Humanities training for medical students
The “Medicine and Humanities” program provides a “Humanities” summer school for medical students from Lyon, Ottawa and Shanghai. It is organized each year, alternating between Ottawa, Lyon and Shanghai, and focuses on a theme chosen by all of the partners involved in the program.
► Partners: The Université de Lyon, the Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1, the Shanghai Jiao Tong University-Ruijin Hospital School of Medicine, and the Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Entrepreneurship and innovation with the Université de Sherbrooke
The Université de Lyon and the Université de Sherbrooke signed a specific agreement for scientific and technological cooperation, with a section for entrepreneurship and innovation. It allows the implementation of innovative training programs and collaborations between the students of both universities. This program aims to create a close link between the academic and socio-economic ecosystems.
Research
The research component is based on three major elements.
Support for international laboratories and research projects
Through the CNRS international cooperation tools, the UdL supports the development of the following international research projects (IRPs) and international research laboratories (IRLs):
- The LN2 IRLs: Nanotechnology and nanosystems laboratories
- The FunCat IRP: Fundamental Catalysis for Green Chemistry
- The JIN IRP: Joint Institute for Neuromuscular Research
- The CAC IRP: Centre Acoustique Jacques Cartier
Scientific mobility
This scheme is designed to promote and/or support research and training initiatives as well as short-term stays in Canada (Ottawa, Sherbrooke, Montreal, McGill and Concordia) for researchers and research professors.
► Disciplines: oncology, material sciences, law, social psychology applied to sports performance, photonics, digital humanities, civil law, computer vision, biomechanics and biology.
Research Chairs
The Joint Research Chairs 2020 call for proposals has led to the development of six joint research chair projects and one developmental initiative in oncology.
The Université de Lyon also supports the Ottawa-Lyon “mirror” chair in law.
