[OUR CONSORTIUM] The Université de Lyon supports Pinar Selek

The Université de Lyon is supporting Pinar Selek for the third hearing of her fifth trial, which took place in Turkey on June 28, 2024.
The entire French university community is rallying to support Associate Professor Pinar Selek, whose fifth trial took place in Istanbul on June 28.
Nathalie Dompnier, President of the Université de Lyon, was part of the university delegation traveling to Turkey to attend the trial and defend academic freedom.
Pinar Selek, an Honorary Doctor of the École Normale Supérieure de Lyon in 2013 and Honorary Citizen of the City of Lyon in 2023, attended the Lyon City Hall for a day of solidarity, accompanied by her friends and supporters from Lyon.

About Pinar Selek
Pinar Selek is an Associate Professor of Sociology and a writer. She was forced to leave Turkey as her freedom and safety were no longer guaranteed. For more than 25 years, she has been persecuted by the Turkish justice system for her opinions and writings. A French-Turkish activist, Pinar Selek is involved in numerous struggles, in particular for the rights of minorities, the Kurdish cause and the fight against discrimination in Turkish society. In 1998, she was accused of committing an assassination attempt in Turkey, and was acquitted of the charges on four previous occasions. On June 21, 2022, the Turkish Supreme Court overturned her acquittal, and she is now facing a fifth trial.
