[RETROSPECTIVE] 12th SLEIGHT Science Event: three days dedicated to "Imaging in Manutech-SLEIGHT"

On The July 19, 2024

The Manutech-SLEIGHT Graduate School organized its 12th SLEIGHT Science Event, from July 8 to 10 in the premises of Telecom Saint-Étienne at the Jean Monnet University, bringing together more than 100 participants around the themes of imaging: computational reproducibility in imaging, phase contrast in X-ray imaging, electron microscopy for in situ analysis and optical microscopy in biology and medicine.

Like every year in July, the Graduate School gathered for three scientific days during which the students were in the spotlight. They were able to benefit from a scientific program covering different approaches to imaging in Manutech-SLEIGHT. Two equipment visits allowing the (re)discovery of the NeoARM Transmission Electron Microscope, as well as the light sheet microscope. A session specially dedicated to young researchers allowed them to present their work and be rewarded for the quality of it.

A high-level scientific program covering all Manutech-SLEIGHT themes

In order to provide multidisciplinary outlook to students, six researchers were invited to present their cutting-edge research areas:
  • Sorina POP (CNRS, Lab. CREATIC, Lyon) - Field: medical imaging
  • Emmanuel BRUN (Inserm, Lab. Strobe, Grenoble) - Field: medical imaging
  • Renaud PODOR (CNRS, ICSM Marcoule, L2ME, Bagnols-sur-Cèze) - Field: electron microscopy
  • Philippe STEYER (INSA Lyon, Lab. MatéIS, Lyon) - Field: electron microscopy
  • Ruth SIMS (Inserm, Institute of Vision, Paris) - Field: photon microscopy
  • Olivier HAEBERLE (Lab. IRIMAS, Mulhouse) - Field: optical microscopy

Two students rewarded for their presentations and one student recognized for his involvement in the Graduate School activities

Melis COBAN, PhD student at the BiiO laboratory (Jean Monnet University - UJM) and Anthony NAKHOUL, Post-doctoral student at the Hubert Curien laboratory (UJM, CNRS, IOGS) received a prize respectively for the “Best PhD presentation” and the “Best Post-doc presentation” during the “Young Researchers” session.

Sofiane FRAINE, PhD student at the BiiO laboratory (UJM), is the winner of the Manutech-SLEIGHT Certificate which rewards Master's students for their involvement in the Graduate School. 11 Master's students are Certificate winners this year, but currently on internship in France or abroad, they will receive their certificate when they graduate.

Manutech-SLEIGHT will meet at Jean Monnet University this winter for the 13th edition of the SLEIGHT Science Event. The event will be dedicated to all the themes of Manutech-SLEIGHT (SLEIGHT in 2025) and will be held from January 9 to 15, 2025.
