Attochemistry: Electron-nuclear dynamics in correlation bands

The advent of attosecond physics allowed the observation and manipulation of dynamic processes occurring within the intrinsic time scale of the charge motion in atoms and molecules. This has opened the door to the realization of the dream of attochemistry, namely to control chemical reactions through the manipulation of the pure electron dynamics taking place in the first instants after the excitation of the system. The recent realization of key prerequisite of attochemistry, namely the existence of long-lived electronic coherences and the possibility to modify the stability of a molecule through pure electron dynamic, make it an exciting time for its study.
