Deep Learning Model for Predicting Chemotherapy Response from Histology and Transcriptomic Data (ReCheDeep)

Gastric cancer is the second leading cause of cancer mortality worldwide, with over 1,000,000 patients diagnosed and a very poor prognosis. The 5-year survival rate for advanced or metastatic stages is between 5% and 20%, with a median overall survival of less than one year. (1) The recommended treatment for locally advanced forms consists of perioperative systemic chemotherapy (based on 5-fluorouracil and cisplatin), without patient selection by a biomarker, and gastrectomy with lymph node dissection. Despite this treatment, postoperative recurrences remain frequent, with a third of cases localized to the liver and peritoneum.
