Osteoporosis is a disease characterized by a decrease in the amount and quality of bone.
It weakens the skeleton and increases the risk of fractures. Osteoporosis and the resulting fractures are an important cause of disability and loss of autonomy. The overall cost of
osteoporotic fractures in France is estimated at €86 million per year (hospitalization and re-hospitalization). These fractures can have serious consequences: only ¼ of patients fully recover their functional abilities while 20% of them die within a year of this event.
